Secret Worlds and Unique Stories That Matter

The Complex Adventures of Eddie Puss – Adult Comic Strip by Loud House Creator Chris Savino

The Complex Adventures of Eddie Puss is an adult comic strip created by animator Chris Savino, better known as the creator of The Loud House tv series on Nickelodeon. While Chris Savino has been involved in controversies surrounding his alleged inappropriate relationship with several female colleagues during his time at Nickelodeon, which will be discussed later in this post, he apparently created a little known comic strip before producing the popular Loud House tv show.

Chris Savino is a long-term veteran of the animation industry. He has worked on numerous animated series such as Rocko’s Modern Life, The Powerpuff Girls, Duckman, My Life as a Teenage Robot, Kick Buttowski: Suburban Daredevil and many more. While he was usually either a storyboard artist or a layout artist for most of these projects, his big break would come when he pitched The Loud House to Nickelodeon in 2013 as part of the company’s annual Animated Shorts Program. The series premiered for the first time on May 2, 2016 and became a huge hit for Nickelodeon. At its peak during its first three seasons, The Loud House even managed to pull in more young viewers than SpongeBob SquarePants, a feat that was seemingly impossible. The Loud House franchise is still going strong in its upcoming eighth season.

Unfortunately for Savino, his big break would abruptly come to an end on October 19, 2017 when he was fired from Nickelodeon after several female colleagues accused him of sexual misconduct. While some internet users have questioned the motives of the women behind the allegations, the general consensus is that Savino was in the wrong, as evidenced by his firing by Nickelodeon. Separated from his project seemingly indefinitely, he later claimed to have found god and became a born-again Christian with his wife and family. He also stated that he is unable to watch The Loud House anymore due to the stigma associated with his firing, and that he is deeply depressed as a result. It is a rather tough subject when discussing Savino’s career and controversies. He already has the unfortunate distinction of being only the second major employee publicly fired by Nickelodeon, the first of course being John Kricfalusi – the creator of Ren & Stimpy.

Background on Eddie Puss

Not much is known about the origins of the Eddie Puss comic strip besides the fact that Chris Savino produced it either before or sometime during his tenure at Nickelodeon. I believe I remember somewhere online, maybe on Reddit or Twitter, where someone stated that Savino published the comic strip in the Weirdo comics – the same anthology that coincedentally contained John Kricfalusi’s infamous Cave Nudes (I’ve included a hyperlink to the Cave Nudes post, you should definitely check it out). The main theme of the Eddie Puss comic strip is that of a young anthropomorphic cat named Eddie Puss who is sexually attracted to his mother. Eddie’s full name “Eddie Puss” is a pun on the word “Oedipus”. Oedipus was a mythical king and tragic hero in Greek mythology who killed his father and married his mother. The full title of the comic strip itself, The Complex Adventures of Eddie Puss, is also a play on words on the Oedipus Complex, which is a phenomenon whereby a son has sexual feelings towards his mother and a rivalry towards his father for his mother’s affections. The comic strip itself plays into this theme with Eddie Puss being greatly attracted to his mother and constantly trying to be intimate with her.

Eddie Puss Comic Strip

Now the moment you’ve all been waiting for! Below are all of the images that I could find online of the Eddie Puss comic strip by Chris Savino. It should be noted that there is a lot of “fake” or fan made images of Eddie Puss that can be confused with the real comic strip. I won’t post any of those images here, but just to let you know that they exist. When I first started to do this post, I distinctively remembered that all of the fake comic strips had “Not Savino” or something like that, so at least you could tell that those were fake. I found most of these images on either Funnyjunk or Furbooru, but keep in mind that this is not an exhaustive list, and there could still be more comic strips out there. It’s also worth noting that the strips are not dated, so I have no way of knowing the chronological order of the comics. With that in mind, I will just post all of the relevant Eddie Puss comics without acknowledgement of the date of the comics since we don’t have that information yet.

To the best of my abilities, I was only able to gather seven different Eddie Puss comic strips, but more could definitely be online or in Savino’s custody. I do love the humor of the comic strips, and the incestuous tone is not only generally playful but even makes you want to root for the poor kitten at times. Throughout the comics, none of the other characters sans Eddie Puss are named, though I can imagine that their last names end in “Puss” since all the characters are anthropomorphic cats.

The most “disturbing” moment of the comic strip would have to be where Eddie jabs forks into his eyes when he’s having a Catholic guilt-ridden dream about his incestuous advances towards his mother. I was definitely not expecting that! However, it’s almost like a humorous character development moment since Eddie acknowledges that his incestuous relationship with his mother is fundamentally wrong and he tries to stop it; even when she seems to be either testing or falling for his advances as she is wearing a see-through shirt for no particular reason. But this change may only be temporary for the guilt ridden kitten though. It is Eddie Puss we are talking about after all.

My favorite comic strip moment would have to be in the strip where Eddie is in his mom’s lap and says “I prefer a nice bust in the mouth!” That had me laughing, especially since it comes after his fourth wall breaking monologue to the readers. My favorite strip in general though would have to be the one where he challenges his dad for his mom’s affection. It’s the only strip that shows the dad, who just can’t seem to get any action like his son Eddie. Like father like son I guess. Eddie eventually wins by breaking down into tears, which allows him to finally suckle on his mom’s breasts, whilst saying to himself “Score, Eddie: 1, Dad: 0”. His dad lost in the end which is want makes this scene humorous. However, it’s also the best reference to the Oedipus Complex that these comic strips are named after since Eddie is fighting against his dad for his mom’s love.

Extra Comic Craziness

Being a veteran in the animation industry, it should be no surprise that Savino created more comic strips than just Eddie Puss. He’s perhaps best known for his work on For Brothers, which centers around the lives of three brothers, which is definitely a downgrade from Lincoln and his ten sisters in the Loud House. The strip is notable for its Christian messaging as well.

He has produced many comics, but a couple of ones that caught my attention in particular is one comic strip called Smart Allex, and another one that’s a parody of Alice in Wonderland. Below this paragraph are the Smart Allex comic strips. These comics are noteworthy for their slapstick humor and violence, with the main protagonist, Allex being a smug kid who always gets harmed in some way in the end as a consequence of his actions towards others. Like Eddie Puss, Smart Allex is a pun on another phrase, in this case “Smart Aleck”, meaning someone who irritates others because they think they know everything, which perfectly encapsulates the Allex character. A nice little piece of trivia concerning the third comic strip is that the little boy in the second panel who’s receiving a quarter as compensation for helping the elderly lady cross the street bears a striking resemblance to Lincoln Loud from the Loud House.

However, the comic strip that really piqued my interest was the Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland one. Or rather a very crude interpretation of the classic story. It’s only a single strip, but boy is it something else! Interestingly, the strip doesn’t have a title and the Alice character doesn’t have a name, though we can assume it’s just “Alice” based on the underlying context of the strip. This makes me think that this isn’t the entire comic strip, but just a portion that was released or captured online, which makes me hopeful that more of the comic strip could turn up sometime in the near future. The strip shows a young woman or girl falling into a hole in the first panel. She is obviously very distressed and is desperately trying to find a way out of her predicament. The last panel reveals that her new world is actually inside the anus of a realistic rabbit!

Besides the Eddie Puss comic strips, this one is my absolute favorite. It’s both funny but unnerving at the same time. How did she end up in the rabbit’s ass in the first place? She states in the third panel that it’s the last time that she’ll be sniffing around a rabbit’s hole, but why would she in the first place? Obviously you can tell that it’s a reference to the Alice in Wonderland story, but why would she knowingly fall down a hole to no where? Just trying to imagine a girl falling down inside a rabbit’s butt is already funny enough, but when she eventually hits the ground, we see that the area is populated by giant mushrooms. She also notably curses by saying “Fuck!” throughout the strip. This is probably the only time that a character created by Chris Savino has ever cursed, and makes this comic strip, along with Eddie Puss, the only known adult comic strips and media that Chris Savino has ever created himself. As stated previously, the unnamed girl is smoking a cigarette in the third panel and readers are greeted with an actual realistic rabbit in the last panel. We don’t know if the girl ever makes it out of the giant (to her at least) mammal, but the best we can do is either pray for her or ask Savino to continue her comic strip. I’m also impressed that Savino was able to draw the rabbit so detailed on the last panel, unless he just imposed the image on the panel instead, which is still super cool. This is the only comic strip of the unnamed Alice-like character that I could find, so if you know more about this particular strip please let me know!

Reputation and Personal Thoughts

Eddie Puss is one of those pieces of obscure entertainment media that while definitely innovative, suffers from the sins of its creators, in this case Chris Savino. His ousting by Nickelodeon unfortunately tarnished the reputation of Eddie Puss when it was discovered online, and convinced many people that Savino’s sexual harassment allegations and the comic’s incestuous themes were incontrovertibly linked. This is despite the fact that he created numerous other comics such as For Brothers and Smart Allex as previously mentioned, which don’t contain any mature or controversial content within them. I’m probably in the minority here, but I enjoyed the boundary pushing nature of Eddie Puss, as it made fun of taboo subjects like incest and guilt which are not often discussed in entertainment media. Even the Alice in Wonderland-esque comic strip is an entertaining detour from Savino’s usually family friendly works, and I would be interested to see if there are more Eddie Puss, Alice or other mature comic strips and media that Savino has worked on in the past.

So what do you think dear readers about Eddie Puss and Savino’s other comics? Did the Eddie Puss comic strip go too far in its theme about a cute yet incestuous kitten, or did it handle it perfectly? What’s your opinion about the strip overall? Let me know your thoughts in the comments section below, and as always, please feel free to share with me any new information regarding this comic strip.
